Most Tool rooms, manufacturing sheet metal dies, plastic injection moulds, forging dies etc. deal with extremely large variety of parts & products in batch sizes of one or two. Scheduling in the shop floor depends on lead time to deliver which are often not adhered. There is mismatch between orders and capacity. Tool rooms are looking for cost effective solutions to reduce the lead times.Process Planning and Scheduling plays a major role in ensuring that the total lead time of tool development is kept to a minimum. The optimum utilization of all the resources depends largely on the knowledge and skill level of the planning engineers.
