IMTMA Training Centre

Design For Manufacturing and Assembly

Date : 29 to 30 April, 2019

@ BIEC, 10th Mile, Tumkur Road, Madavara Post, Bangalore

Last date for registration 22 April 2019

With ever shrinking time available for developing new products and bringing them to global markets, manufacturing enterprises have been forced to continuously adopt new methods to survive. One approach is to use Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) methods where products are systematically designed and evaluated to minimize set-ups during production operations, component counts and overall product complexity.

DFMA will help designers to build quality into robust design at least cost. In addition to achieving quicker product development and reducing cost of product development, DFMA also ensures that the transition from the design phase to the production phase is as smooth and rapid as possible.

Keeping this in view, Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers' Association (IMTMA) is organizing a 2 day programme on Design for Manufacturing and Assembly on 29 - 30 April 2019 at Bangalore. This training will enable organizations to develop products reducing manufacturing and assembly costs, improving quality and speeding time to market.

Focus Areas

  • Objectives and Principles of DFM & A
  • Understanding of product design process
  • Design for ease of assembly, per Boothroyd / Dewhurst principles
  • Theoretical part count efficiency.
  • Design efficiency calculations, per Boothroyd / Dewhurst principles
  • Design of Casting and Forging, parting line selection, draft, mismatch and other allowances that would help easy manufacturing
  • Design for Manufacturing, DFM: Castings / Forgings / Sheet metal, plastic, welding and machined parts. Technique to improve Assembly cycle time
  • Poka-Yoke (mistake-proofing)
  • Comparison of DFM methods and cost implications
  • A couple of case studies

Participant Profile

This programme will benefit Managers, Engineers, Middle Management and technical personnel involved in the functions of Design and Development of engineering products comprising moulded parts, sheet metal parts and cast parts.

This programme will be conducted by Mr. Srinivas B, and Mr. Avinash Khare Industry expert in Product design and development.

Mr. Srinivas has more than 23 years of rich experience in Aerospace and Auto industries in leadership roles within India and international locations. He is GDTP Senior professional, certified by ASME. Had worked on several re-engineering projects in both product and tool design areas, which resulted in lower weights & costs, ease of manufacturing & assembly while maintaining design intent intact. He has thorough knowledge of various Quality Standards for enhancing the operational efficiency such as Six Sigma, ISO9001, TS16949, etc.., and is a Six Sigma green belt trained and certified by Cummins.

Mr. Avinash Khare is Former Asst. General Manager at Tata Motors, Pune. He has 33 years of experience in various functions involving Technology Development, Maintenance, Capex and resource management, Die Design and Business Excellence. Now he is working with IMTMA as a Consultant & Head of Technology Centre at Pune.

The programme will be highly interactive where participants can solicit feedback on specific technical issues from the expert faculty.
