The Machine tool spindle is most sophisticated member in machine tool and plays a vital role for better performance, higher efficiency and accuracy. Design of spindle is very important and a critical activity of machine tool design process. Spindles are integral part of the machine tool and responsible for quality of the final product produced and overall productivity of the machine tools. In order to meet the requirement of high cutting speeds for high metal removal, spindle speed would be the critical requirement from customers. External driven spindles will have a lower critical speeds and meeting the new challenges is impossible. Hence need of motorized spindle is inevitable. Design and development of such integral spindle draws the highest possible attention to address the various aspects from design to manufacture. The proposed programme is focused from design to assembly and testing addressing various aspects.
