Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) considerations in Design and Maintenance

Introduction

The performance of the rotating machines in the plant is designated as “SMOOTH” or “VIBRATING” and “NOISY” or “SILENT”. In general, the smooth machines produce less noise and vice the versa. While, the output of the machines and the quality of product is directly proportional to the level of vibration, the noise of the machine affects the health of the operator and personnel around the machines. It has been found that the unbalance constitute as much as 80% of vibration problems in rotating machines. It also a fact  that the vibrating machines generally produce high noise. It is proven that the vibration is beginning of the failure that leads to noise, heat and subsequent seizure. Hence it is most important to study the vibration and noise phenomenon in industrial machine in detail.

Keeping this in view, Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers' Association (IMTMA) is organizing a 2 day programme on Noise and Vibration Control of Industrial Machines on 29-30 November 2019 at Pune.

Participant Profile

This programme will benefit Design, Project, E & C and Maintenance Engineers engaged in maintenance of rotating machines (E.g. - Motors, Generators, Compressors, Pumps, Gear Boxes and other equipment. The programme will be useful for the engineers in the design department, service, production department and quality department.

This interactive programme will help the practicing engineers get a detailed insight in the areas of design, maintenance, operation and troubleshooting of the machines as well as the failure analysis.


Faculty

This program will be conducted by Mr. D B Kulkarni, former Chief of Technology, BFL, Bangalore. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, India. He has completed his post graduate in mechanical engineering from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and has over 32 years of industrial experience. He has worked in design of rotating machines like electrical machines like motors, generators and hydro-turbines. He has worked in the areas of rotor dynamics, hydrodynamic bearing design, static and dynamic analysis of individual rotor as well as coupled rotor systems. He has worked in the areas of CAD, CAE and FEA. He has rich experience of static and dynamic analysis of static as well as rotating machines. He has attended and solved vibration and thermal related numerous site problems in rotating machines like Motor – Compressor sets, Generator – IC Engine sets and Hydro Turbine – Gear Box – Generator sets. The programme will be highly interactive where participants could raise questions and solicit feedback from the expert faculty.
