Honing-Tools, Process and Applications

Date : 19 November, 2019

@ BIEC, 10th Mile, Tumkur Road, Madavara Post, Bangalore

Introduction

Honing is an abrasive machining process that produces a precision surface on a metal work piece by scrubbing an abrasive stone against it along a controlled path. Honing is primarily used to improve the geometric form of a surface, but may also improve the surface texture. In today’s manufacturing environment, honing is widely used especially in the automobile industry to improve the performance and efficiency of various components.

To meet this demand, it is important to have a skilled workforce with a thorough knowledge of the honing process. Machine operators, line supervisors and engineering managers would benefit much from an in-depth knowledge of the process, the tool mechanism, the various parameters involved and the troubleshooting methods.

Keeping this in view, Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers' Association (IMTMA) is organizing 1 day seminar on Honing-Tools, Process and Applications on 19 November 2019 at Bangalore.

Focus Areas

  • Introduction to Honing
  • Honing as a system - Tool, Process, accessories
  • Types of honing tools and selection criteria
  • Honing machines – an overview
  • Measurement of various parameters / factors as per customer requirements such as CPC, cycle time, stock removal, surface finish, life of stone etc
  • Understanding some of the machine parameters such as RPM, Pressure, Stroke length, coolant etc. and their influence on the honing process as a whole
